Each department answers one question a real backroom would answer, and each one knows what isn't its job.
Compares your results with the chances you create and concede, using the match and season stats stored in your save. Most of the time the answer is "no change".
Doesn't: hand you a tactic file or tell you which formation to play.
Builds a shortlist for a position and role, inside the leagues you choose. Attribute fit and on-pitch performance are shown separately, so you can see why someone is on the list.
Doesn't: say "sign him", or show CA, PA or hidden attributes.
Looks at depth, contracts, ageing and successors for every slot, today, next season and three seasons out, so a gap shows up before it becomes an emergency.
Doesn't: pick transfer targets or build the squad for you.
MATCHCRAFT rates attack, defence and ball security with these four states. "Not enough data" is a real answer: early in a season it will say so instead of guessing.

No. Backroom FM only reads your save file. It never writes to it and doesn't touch the game.

No, and that's on purpose. It tells you whether your tactic is actually failing and where to look. What you change is your call.
No. Realism Mode is on by default and hides CA, PA and hidden attributes so the game keeps its uncertainty.
Patches can change the save format. Updates for new game versions are included in the licence.
No. It's a statistics engine: the same save always gives the same answer, built only from your save data.
The licence is sold through Microsoft Store, so Microsoft Store's refund policy applies.
Backroom FM runs on your PC. It reads the Football Manager save file you choose and writes its results to a folder on your PC. It does not upload your save, your results or any personal information, and it has no account, analytics or advertising.
If you buy the FM27 licence, Windows checks it with Microsoft Store. That check is handled by Microsoft under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Backroom FM keeps only a local note that the licence is active, so the app keeps working offline.
